Tying From: entry to E-mail Account used to send e-mail

Is there a feature or add-in that would allow Outlook to
choose the E-Mail Account it uses to send an email by
matching the entry in the From: field on the mail to the
e-mail address in the account?

I am using Outlook in a non-Exchange environment. I
manage three e-mail identities and a single calendar.
I'm fairly certain that Outlook uses the "default" mail
account to send all emails. That means that every email
is either marked with the email address in that email
account or an "on behalf of" the entry in the From:
field.

What I would really like is for Outlook to make the
return address either with the value in the From: field
or pick the right account with which to send the mail.

Any ideas?

First of all, in a non-Exchange environment you should not be using the From
field to choose your sending account. The way you should do it depends on
your Outlook version, but unfortunately you didn't say what version you use.

Outlook will generally use the default mail account to send new messages,
while for replies and forwards, it will use the account the original message
was sent through. However, this does not apply in all configurations of
Outlook, which is why I need to know what yours is.

Because the From field is used with Exchange when one person has permission
to send messages as, or on behalf of, another user. To choose a sending
account in Outlook 2002, use the Accounts button on the Standard toolbar in
a mail message.
