Two Windows XP's at startup

I had to reinstall Win XP Pro and now, since the new reinstall, I always get
two Microsoft Windows XP selections at the beginning of the startup process.
It says I'm to select which one I want, using the arrow buttons, but they
are both the same and besides that the arrow buttons don't work at this
point on the keyboard, nor does the Enter key.
So all I can do is to wait while the 30 seconds count down and the computer
proceeds with its startup process.
What can I do to fix this?
(I used only the Win XP disc to reinstall the software. This computer was
not bought by a major vendor and all I got with it was the original OS CD).

Thanks

J

Jay, try rt clicking MyComputer>select Properties>Advanced>Startup and
Recovery-Settings>Edit. Change the Timeout = 30 to 2 Click on File,
Save and Exit.

Google "repair boot.ini in Windows XP".

Changing 30 to 2 does not cure this problem situation.
He needs to edit his Boot.ini as Stanley stated, period.
He can check his setup by using MSCONFIG and then edit.
To edit:
1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
-or-
Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl and click OK.
2. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
3. Under System Startup, click Edit.

As I read it, his problem was waiting the 30 seconds since he could not
make a selection
of OS's anyway. Giving him one selection still leaves him at the mercy of
30 seconds.

I fixed this.
It was very simple.
I went to msconfig.Boot.ini and clicked on "Check All Boot Paths".
I then got a message that said that one boot path did not appear to be
valid.
After deleting the one they suggested the problem was fixed.

Thanks
