two users using same e-mail question

I'd like to set up my e-mail so that it doesn't make any difference whether
it's me or my wife that is logging on, we'll both have the same e-mail files
such as the inbox, etc. How do I go about doing that? One response I got
was to put the .PST file in a shared location on the hard drive and tell
Outlook to use that file for each user. But, sorry to say, I don't really
know how to do that. I am running on Windows XP and have Outlook 2002.
Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you got one of my responses the first time ;-) OK, you and
your wife have separate Windows logins, right? One of you is probably
already using the .PST file you want to share. Close Outlook and use
Windows Explorer to move that file to a Windows folder that is accessible to
both your login and your wife's login (for instance, you could create a
folder in C:\ called "Data Files" and put the .PST file there). Once you've
done that, reopen Outlook. It will complain it can't find your .PST file --
point it in the right direction.

When you're all set up to use the file, close Outlook, log out of Windows,
and log back into Windows as your wife (or have her do it ;-) ) Use File
| Open | Outlook Data File to browse to the .PST file in its new location,
then click Open. It will open in the Folder List. You can make it the
default .PST file in Tools | E-mail Accounts | View or change existing
e-mail accounts | Next -- there's a dropdown box that says "Deliver new
e-mail to the following location".

Now you should both be set up to use the same .PST file. If there are any
other .PST files open in your folder lists that you aren't using, you can
right-click the root folder and click Close to "disconnect" them from
Outlook (the files will still be on the hard drive).

Thanks for the detail of your reply. And also the effort and time you took
to respond. I followed your directions and it seems to be working just
fine. Again, thanks.
