I have 3 servers, each with 2 NICs. Two of the servers are running Terminal
Services (Win2K) and the 3rd is a file server (Win2K). The TS sessions run
an application loaded from the file server, so they're going to come in on 1
NIC and then communicate with the file server through the 2nd NIC. The 2nd
NICs use private addresses and go through their own dedicated switch. The
first NICs are connected to another switch going to the internet.
I have mapped drives on the TS to those on the file server and (attempted)
to set up RRAS on all three systems. I'm not sure I've set up RRAS properly
or even that I'm using it properly.
Sometimes the TS is a bit slow loading the applicaton and it appears that
it's loading the app through the public IP addressed NIC rather than the
private IP NIC. The file server needs the public IP NIC for maintenance
purposes.
Is RRAS the proper way to make sure the TS access the file server through
the 2nd NICs? Is their a good guidance document to set this up properly??
Is this the best way to set the networking up? Are there additional
parameters that will give consistent, speedy access to the file server. This
is in a workgroup and is Active Directory is NOT being used.
TIA for your help..
