Hi Eveybody,
I need some giudance how to setup AD in two different
sites.
I need to setup one site at seattle and the other one at
Texas. The Seattle office is a head office. And the Texas
office is a branch office.
My question is what is the best way to setup AD?
.
Tim,
Good that you are thinking about Sites! A good number of
people still think that that they have to create another
domain. That is understandable, though, as that pretty
much is how it was with WINNT 4.
Set up the first site. I assume that it will be
Seattle. Nothing there is any different from setting up
a one-site AD Domain. You *might* want to rename the
Site from the default name to SEATTLE. Might make things
easier and there are no adverse effects to doing so.
What is of utmost importance is that you set up the
appropriate Subnets in the ADSS MMC and then associate
them with the proper Site. DNS would also be really
important ( but that is the case no matter what! ).
Will you be able to be in the Texas office? I assume
that you are in the Seattle office.
Also, how many users are in the Texas office and how does
growth look? If it is just a few and it looks like
growth will not really happen too quickly then you might
want to consider Terminal Server. Place the TS in
Seattle and let your Texas users connect to that. Just
make sure to set up a Firewall-to-Firewall VPN between
the two offices ( which you should do as well if you do
go with two Sites! ).
