Two sets of Personal Folders

B

Bobby

I recently re-installed Outlook (clean install on reformatted HD) and
although I managed to restore my PST file, I now have two sets of Personal
Folders. They appear to be images of each other.

How do I get rid of one of them?

Cheers.

Hi Bobby,
please look in the control panel | Mail | Data Files
There you could delete the second one

I'll bet you set up Outlook and then copied your PST file on top of a PST
file with exactly the same name in an attempt to restore your messages. By
doing so, you fried your mail profile. Create a new one.

I did exactly that. How do I create a new profile?

Control Panel>Mail>Show Profiles (for pre-Windows XP) or Control Panel>User
Accounts>Mail>Show Profiles (for Windows XP).

Brian - What do you mean "create a new one"? Won't this remove all my
current data?

Cheers.

Am I missing something? You said on 4 August "create a new one". You didn't
explain how to do it.

On August 4 I said:

| Control Panel>Mail>Show Profiles (for pre-Windows XP) or Control
Panel>User
| Accounts>Mail>Show Profiles (for Windows XP).

Cheers Brian. I can now see how to create a new profile. But how do I keep
my current e-mail, calendar, tasks etc?

When you add in the Personal Folders service, point to your existing PST.

Brian - Thanks for trying. But I can't follow your instructions. Some of
them are plain wrong (such as the way you say I should create a new profile
under XP).

You said you figured out how to create a new mail profile. That's all I
told you to do. (Control Panel>User Accounts>Mail>Show Profiles>Add)

They were correct. I wasn't telling you to create a new Windows user
account. It appears you misinterpreted what I said.
