I use two screens on my PC. I am looking for a laptop that will enable me to do the same thing, primarily so that I can use a hotel room tv as a second monitor. I dont just want a clone screen , as I use different applications on each screen. I have had lots of contradictory advice - from "No lap top supprts this function" (from PC world, currys etc), to "most laptops support this function" (from a web retailer). Can any one either offer definitive advice, including which models, or tell me where I can find it. Rest of the spec I want is: 2GB memory, 150ish GB harddrive, fast wireless connectivity, on board webcam, goodish sound,
Many thanks

I think all you need is the monitor connection on the laptop, because you can then just go into your display settings, click on the external monitor and check the 'extend my desktop to this monitor' box.

Many thanks Bodhi. I need to know for definite though - dont want to buy the wrong laptop on a hope!. Does anyone know for sure

I would think you'll need to check the specifications of the laptop in question - most that I have seen will just do a clone screen (these are low end laptops though). However, on some of the high end laptops with a good GeForce card will no doubt allow split screen - it is definitely available on some laptops.

The best thing to do would be to check the specs for the laptop you are interested in :)

it all depends on what the TV's will accept in the way of an input

old CRT's aren't worth the effort as you cant read much on them, for them your only reall input would be a scart socket, for that you'd need an S-video to scart cable

if you're lucky to get a room with a nice new flat screen that has a VGA input you can just hook it up like a normal monitor providing you have a VGA port

whether you can do an extended screen or just duplicate it etc depends on what software the laptop is running

I have dual screen on my work laptop. It's a crappy dell thing. And all i do is plug my dell monitor in and extend the desktop.

thanks for replies. Actually got some sense out of a curry's guy yesterday. It appears that most modern laptops do this now. BOught one yesterday, and it works fine (onhome TV - testing hotel tv tonight!!). Thats one step forward, justneed to wait for the 3 backward ones now!!
Many thanks for your help
