I have WinXP Home with SP1. About a month ago I had to
format my C Drive(yes,I did cry). Since then I have a
couple of annoying happenings that I hope someone can
point me in the right direction to solve. First,
whenever I save photos to My Pictues, it also goes into
the desktop Background list. Settings,Control
Panel,Desktop,Background. The list is getting quite long
(I have lots of grandchildren's pictures). How do I keep
this from happening, and how can I remove the ones from
the list that I don't want? Second question:
Taskbar,Properties,Customize Noticification area.Programs
that I have deleted are still listed in the Past Item
list. How do I get rid of them? I know these two things
are probably something simple that I am overlooking, but
I've looked everywhere I that I dare. Any help would be
so very much appreciated. Thanks, Belle

Since the second is already answered I'll address the first. This behavior
is by design. Anything in your My Pictures folder is available as a
desktop background. If create a sub-folder in My Pictures and move the
pictures into the sub-folder then they will not be added to the list of
available background images. The list of desktop background images gets
populated from picture files in the windows directory, your my pictures
directory and from windows\web\wallpaper.

Thank you Tom Porterfield and Taurarian for your quick
responses.Don't know why I did not think of Kelley's
Korner--I should have. Both of your solutions worked
great. Once again, this newsgroup has come through for me
like a champ.Thanks, Belle

It's normal for pictures in the My Pictures folder to appear as available
backgrounds. Try moving the ones that you don't want as backgrounds into
subfolders within My Pictures or to a different folder entirely.
