Could someone help me out here. I need to know how to:

1. Apply a masterpage to a presentation. (I am able to apply the
master to a slide, but not the master of the cover page)

2. How to ADD a placeholder to a master page.

Thanks!

Hi, thanks for your response. I have two more questions you might be
able to help me with.

1. I need to know how to APPLY a master page (via the master title)
to a presentation that does not presently have a title page.

2. Can PP place in the footer "field" codes so that when a doc. is
printer the (server)path/date/time will be AUTOMATICALLY inserted?

thx again.

The Title Master only gets applied to slides that use the slide title
layout.

The footer can automatically display field codes for date and time, but
PowerPoint doesn't provide a field code for the path. Go to View > Master
Slide Master. Then go to Format > Master Layout. Make sure that you have
Date checked. Then go to View > Header and Footer and check Footer under
"Include on slide". You'll have to manually add the path to the "footer
area" placeholder on the Slide Master.

Sonia, thanks for your info.

Also, I checked out your site. Wow! It's impressive. You have a
great eye -- it's all very lovely, and the templates are beautiful.
You must be a painter!

Best of luck.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical

Hello,

Regarding your 2nd question:

PowerPoint does not have the capability of creating/adding custom
placeholders to the slide master and/or creating/adding customer slide
layouts which would take advantage of such custom placeholders. With
multiple master feature in PowerPoint 2002 and 2003 you can create a
variety of almost identical slide masters with different behaviors
(animations) and placement of title and object areas for AutoLayouts so
that when used in conjunction with the existing autolayouts you can get
some additional flexibility but you are still limited to the number and
type of placeholders on in the masters to those that are listed in the
"Master Layout" dialog. When that is still insufficient you can also create
slides that are laid out and formatted the way you want and then you can
use the Duplicate Slide command (or just copy/paste) to make a new copy of
the slide each time you need to create a slide that uses the same
layout/formatting.

Of course, if you (or anyone else reading this message) feel strongly that
some kind feature for creating custom placeholders and/or slide layouts
should be a built-in feature in PowerPoint, don't forget to send your
feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

Hello,

Regarding your 2nd question:

PowerPoint does not have the specific capability that you are looking for
so you would have to enter the file name and path manually, write a macro
or use a 3rd party add-in.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
have the option to include an automatically updatable filename and path
"field" to a presentations header or footer text or other
calculated/dynamic fields such as number of slides, author, modified date,
etc. (without having to resort to VBA or add-ins), don't forget to send
your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:
