hello, i have a problem with sound on a brand new dell.

two computers in a school library's media center
both are:
dell optiplex gx260
windows 2000 - all updates installed
volume on full
sound card working properly
no conflicts
according to the inside of the case it was made in February of this year

and yet there is no sound at all. not from the system speaker or the built
in monitor speakers.

i have used device manager to remove and refresh the sound card. i have gone
through the control panel, the properties of the card, changed the sounds
(incase the file was corrupt), rebooted, tried it as a user, and
administrator. i have searched the windows help site (searched under
"sound", "no sound", and "sound card") still nothing. short of calling dell
or the dept of education's help desk, what can i do to get the sound back on
these computers?

the second problem is with another of the new dell's. it freezes at the logo
of dell when it is turned on. the keyboard does not respond and it will not
go any further along in POST than that logo screen. the bar shows that it is
approx 1/4 of the way through.

these are all fresh out of the box, and installed within the last month, and
3 out of 5 are on the fritz. please please please, tell me how to fix them
or point me to sites that can help.

thank you

What has this to do with windows networking? Based on your described
problems, I think you would be better to contact Dell support.

since all of the school's computers are networked, including the library's,
I figured that I would check here on the off chance that this has been seen
before.

Doubt 100% that's it's network related. Dell should be able to help
you with this issue.
