Hello All,
I have a laptop and pc networked via a router. File sharing is working. The Pc has Brother HL-1230 connected to LTP 1 and a HP 1350 PSC connected by USB, both are shared and work on the PC. The remote laptop can print using the HP but not the Brother. It produces an error message - 'try printing a test page', 'check printer is on and online', reinstall printer driver'. Have tried all these, the Brother is shown as 'ready' on the laptop.
Any help most welcome,
Thanks,

Thats very strange that one works and not the other - is that all the error message says?

It might be worth looking for a different driver for the printer, just in case :)

Does the Brother have a USB connection as well as paralell?

It may be worth trying that, but, as Ian said, that's quite unusual.

So, yes, check for new driver.

Good luck.

Hello floppybootstomp
The Brother only has parallel and there does not appear to be a driver update. I think I will delete the Brother from the remote laptop and start again. It's not citical since the HP works but still a problem to be solved.

have you tried setting it as the default printer ? thats if it isn't already

Hi me 2001,
Tried that but no go. Gone through the 'Add printer' in xp again and see that there is a choice of .......
1. Local printer connected to this computer, or
2. Network printer, or a printer attached to another computer.
But then.....

To set up a network printer that is not attached to a print server, use the 'Local Printer' option.
Bit confusing and I can't remember which option I used to configure the HP PSC which works!
Thanks for your reply,

Hello All,
Deleted Brother printer and started again choosing 'network printer' option - worked fine.
Thanks for the replies.
Still don't understand that line in the 'Add Printer' wizard re using the 'Local Printer' option which is what I must have done. No matter its ok now.
Cheers,
