Two Personal Folders

I have two Personal Folders showing up in the Outlook 2003 Folder List view.
They seem to be the exact same thing. I can't close either one of them.
I'm wondering how to get rid of the second copy.

I think this may have happened because of the way I installed. I put a new
hard drive in my laptop, installed WinXP, and installed all my apps,
including Office 2003. I then replaced the blank OUTLOOK.PST file (and
EXTEND.DAT) with the backup copies I made of those files from the old hard
drive. Outlook didn't seem to have a problem with this, though I had to
play around with the address book to get it to use the Contacts folder (as
I've had to do in the past on a reinstall). But I've not run into this
problem of two Personal Folders entries before. Can anyone help me out with
this?

Thanks,

Russell Campbell

Try to scanpst your pst file. With Outlook closed of course. scanpst should be in C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 in a English system.

As you can see, it's a bad idea to overwrite one .PST file with another :-)
There's no need to do this since you can put a .PST file anywhere you want
and then just tell Outlook where to find it.

To solve your problem with the "ghost" .PST, the easiest thing to do is to
create a new mail profile from scratch, then delete the old profile.
