I am new in the networking world. I setup my home
networking lately. However, I got a problem about
connectivity issue. I have 2 desktop and one laptop to
setup for my home networking. The desktop A can ping to
desktop B and laptop C. However, the latptop C and desktop
B cannot ping to desktop A. Even the desktop A cannot ping
to itself. Can anyone provide some hint for this issue, so
I can try to fix it by myself? Here is my equipment:

Desktop A: Window 2000 (OS) with P4 CPU
Desktop B: Window 2000 (OS) with P3 CPU
Laptop C: Window ME (OS) with P3 CPU
Wireless Router: Netgear Model WGR614
Wireless Adapter: Netgear Model WG121

Please email me if you know the solution. Thank you so
much for your help!

Hi Shirley,

Looks like you will have to congigure DHCP on the Router. I had a look at
the Netgear Website where it gives more details on how to trouble shoot the
setup. Once the DHCP service is configured on the Router, it will assign IP
addresses to your Desktops/Laptop . Also if you feel that the DHCP is
configured correctly, then check whether all the machines are having the IP
address in the same Subnet ... For eg the IP add for M/c "A" can be
10.10.1.2 , Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and Default gate way IP will be that
of the Router.(can be 10.10.1.1) Similarly IP for M/c"B" can be 10.10.1.3
and for the Laptop 10.10.1.4 with the rest of the fields same as for
M/c"A". Also you can add entries for each m/c in a file called Hosts if you
have set up IP addresses manually.

http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WGR614.asp

M/c name "A' should have the host file with entries for the other 2 m/cs
...The entries will look like this.

M/c B 10.10.1.3
M/c C 10.10.1.4 ...

In the above the M/c B suggests machine name...M/c B should have names of
M/c "A" and "C" mentioned. You will find the "hosts" file inside
C:\\Winnt\system32\drivers\etc folder. Edit with word and save the files on
all m/cs.

Please find the link below for more details.
