right click on the file and select explore, instead of open.

You should see in the bottom left of every explorer window a line that says
"Folders" and then an up arrow... click the up arrow, and it will display
the folders pane.

make a shortcut on the quick launch toolbar to windows explorer.
Right click on the shortcut go to properties add the following to target.
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /a , co:
Windows explorer will open with C: drive expanded.
