if i have win xp installed on my c drive and then the registry becomes
corrrupted
windows\system32\config\system file or missing then i load my xp cd and
reboot going into recovery console. If i hit enter instead of r so i am able
to continue to set up xp as an installation, if i install xp again on the
same partition that xp has already been installed what will happen to my
personal files and folders? i understand the original system files will be
replaced if i put this installation in the same place as the existing os but
will i still be able to acccess my files.
Is there a way to copy my c drive to an external drive via usb from the
command prompt, if so please show me how? come on gang forget Houston ,

Please no need to shout?>
What you want is Repair install of the system but still you need to backup
your files/folders if you can or have access to them.
If you want to perform a clean installation the your files/folders will be
wiped out from the HDD and you start new operating system.
Read this on how to perform a repair/install for windows:

Installing two instances of XP on the SAME partition is a recipe for
disaster.

DON'T do it, and if you did, do a clean install of a SINGLE instance.

By the way, Microsoft will NOT activate two instances of XP on the
SAME partition using the same product key.

The ONLY way to untangle the mess is to wipe the partition completely,
and reinstall a SINGLE instance with a valid CD key.
