Two observations about Vista activation

I just had to re-activate Vista HP by phone after swapping in a new hard
drive by way of disc image. I'd been getting the "Product Key already in use"
error when I tried it automatically.

The process was quick and successful, but, aside from the original error,
the system made two mistakes that I thought I'd send in:

1) It asked me whether Windows had come pre-installed with my computer, or
whether I had bought it from a shop at retail. I actually got it through the
Express Upgrade programme, so neither were true! I guessed that the question
was really asking me if the software was OEM or not and chose the first
option, which was thankfully the correct one.

2) It thought I was trying to activate Windows XP! The code I was given
worked regardless, but the recorded voice was unmistakably talking about
Windows XP at one point. This is probably a simple error of playing the wrong
sound file, but still...

Tom,

your message sounded a bit as if you were thinking that you're
talking to Microsoft, but this is just a public newsgroup, not
necessarily read by Microsoft.
