Two issues with Outlook 2007

1. I want to order the shortcut buttons at the lower left, but they
always revert to the default configuration (Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks,
Notes). Is there some way to make it stick?

2. I want to create a custom form based on the Notes form. But when I
pull it up, I get "The form you selected cannot be displayed". I can open
all other forms. Why can't I open this one?

Thanks.

Regarding 1: After you closed Outlook, open the Task Manager and see if
it still lists the process outlook.exe. My suspicion is that it still is
there and that it actually never closes Outlook properly, which prevents
it from saving the changes. If this is the case, kill the process after
a few minutes, then open Outlook via Start, Run, "outlook /safe" and
close it then. If it closes properly with Outlook in this safe mode,
then some program (Outlook add-in, anti-virus scanner, mobile device
syncing with Outlook, OneNote) is keeping Outlook from closing properly.
Disable your anti-virus scanner's integration into Outlook (doesn't
actually provide any additional security, only costs performance), make
sure that no mobile device is plugged in when you close Outlook and be
sure to close OneNote first. Two rule out that it is any add-in, disable
all of them via Tools, Trust Center, Add-Ins and then try to reopen
Outlook and close it properly. If that works, reactive them one by one
until you find the culprit that keeps your Outlook ope.
Regarding 2: You mean the Outlook Notes item that doesn't have any
controls at all?

Thanks. I think I know which add-in is doing this, but I see no way of
disabling it. I can make it inactive by using Manage COM Add-ins, but this
doesn't disable it. I'd rather not have to uninstall it just to do this.
Any ideas?

Yes, the Notes that currently doesn't have any controls. What I'd like to
do is add fields so that the information in the notes is more organized.
Even if I could open it, would this be possible?

Forget Notes. They're brain dead. You can't customize them and if you manage
to add some UI or other to them it's an invitation to crash Outlook. No
experienced Outlook programmer does anything with Notes other than avoid
them like a plague. Don't even handle Notes opening in NewInspector.

Unchecking it there should disable it. The actual section Disabled Items
is used by Outlook only for add-ins that crashed Outlook and which it
asked you to disable when it reopened after crashing.
If disabling there doesn't help, post back.

If you want a better note taking experience, I suggest you take a look
at OneNote.
