Two internal Hard Drives?

My XP E Machine stoped working and want to know if I can attach the HD to my
new Vista E Machine without hurting the it?

How would I check to see if they are the both ide and if the slave/master
settings correct.

Here's an article that has pictures of the cables and connectors, so you can
compare:

If the drive you want to install is, in fact, IDE, then it will have a set
of jumper pins at the back near the connector. You should also find a label
showing what each pair of pins is for (Master, Slave, Cable Select). If the
current drive in your new computer is SATA, the jumper settings on the IDE
drive are not critical. Just find an IDE connector on your motherboard and
run an 80 pin IDE cable from the motherboard to your drive (you'll also need
a power connector).

If the drive in your new computer is IDE, then jumper settings become
important if the two drives are attached to a single motherboard connector.
In this case, either one drive must be Master and the other Slave, or both
must be Cable-Select.

If all this seems daunting, I'd suggest you take your computer and drive to
a competent tech and have it done.
