Two IE Questions (XP)

Using WIn XP's Internet Explorer, two issues:

1. IE is sluggish when loading. Takes maybe 15-20 seconds to load
whether it's a new launch of the browser or a right-click "open in new
window" start.

2. Also, I'd like to keep IE's windows from jumping to the top while
they're loading. Right now, before the page is visible on the monitor,
it can still pop to the top. I've right-click-opened a number of pages
and then started to close the original window...only to discover that
what I've really closed is the new window.

Anything I can try here? And thanks!

1) It may be a slow server or heavy traffic time for your ISP? May also
want to check the properties of your modem in Device Manager. If there is a
Power Management page, uncheck the box that allows the system to power down
the modem to save power.

2) The computer and its programs have no way of knowing what window you
want to look at. It is assumed that you want to look at the page you
requested by clicking the link so that is the window that receives the
primary focus.

One thing I do is to keep my secondary IE windows small, instead of
resizing them to fill the desktop. That way I can easily, click back to the
window I'm viewing. When I'm ready to look at the smaller window, I
maximize it.

I also use TweakUI for XP. Under General there is a setting for "Focus." I
have "Prevent applications from stealing focus" enabled and have the
taskbar button flash 3 times to let me know the window is "ready" for
viewing. You can download TweakUI for XP from Microsoft:

Thanks for the reply, Sharon.

The "focus" tip was just what I was looking for.

I, however, explained the first problem rather poorly. Please allow me
another "go" at it:

When I double-click IE (ver. 6 in XP), the program does not launch or
open for 15-20 seconds. I have set it to use a local file (on my hard
drive) as its "Home Page" so should the internet connection affect
this? It acts the same whether it is loading the local file or
downloading a website.

Before this problem began, IE would immediately appear on-screen.
Now, when I *am* online and right-click to "open in a new window", the
new window does not appear to open for the same amount of time and the
already opened instance of IE "hangs". Normally the program would
immediately appear but would, of course, be blank until the page
finished loading.

I have checked for the presence of any new "browser helpers", scanned
for trojans and virii, and cleared out temp and internet temp files.
Nothing has so far helped.

Hope this makes clearer my problem with IE.

Thanks for the "focus" tip!
