Two hoops near XP system tray = what?

I have been installing quite a lot of freeware lately.

I figure that *maybe* something I have installed may be causing the
two strange hoops or rings to protrude into the system tray
(notification area) from the right hand side.

Does anyone know here what is causing these or what they mean?

it means that xp auto hides some apps that haven't been used lately; if
you click on the two hoops you'll see your whole system tray open up.

I suspect you are tinking of the arrowhead which is usually to the
left of the system tray.

My two hoops are to the right. Also, I have no hidden icons.
Sometimes (only sometimes) double clicking on the hoops makes them go
away for a second or two. They are still showing when I have apps
(like IE) in full screen mode.

You might check for some adware and/or spyware with the help of AdAware
(http://www.lavasoft.de/) or Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/).

Are you offered a toopltip on mouse-hover or a context menu with R
clicking them?

Addtionally the three finger salute may give you some insight into what
might be running.....

Cheers!

If the two hoops are basically two circular lines with an arrow at the
each end of the line, they are caused by spyware. Use the following
to remove them, I don't remember which one actually removes it as
I always run both of them.

Ad-Aware at http://www.lavasoft.de/
Spybot at http://www.safer-networking.org/

No I am not seeing such a tooltip

But I think I might have found out what it is. I think it is due to
