hi there,

i have a p4, 2.5Ghz, 256MB PC2100, 6GB and 160GB HD.

The 6GB HD came from my old computer. I am sure that all
the HD are good. My computer freezes when i try to
access the bigger hard drive. It only happens when i am
loading a lot of files like viewing my pictures. So i
upgraded to 512MB PC3200, exchanged the board with new
one. I didnt if it was the memory or a faulty board but
the overall performance gets a boost and it stoped
freezing.

However it happened again when i tried to install winamp
onto the 160GB HD while havin WinXP on the 6GB one.

Do MS not recommand installing OS on one HD and programs
on another?

thanks

Pete

It should be absolutely no problem....

However are the two drives compatible with each other.... some early drives
do NOT work well with later ones....

I'm sure you've gone through all the easy steps.... jumpers, cable,
assigning drive letters etc...... and that the 6gb is formatted in NTFS if
the larger drive is also formatted in NTFS.....

You might want to check at the drive manufacturer's websites to see if the
older one is compatible with the newer one. It depends on how old it is...
I used to use a 10gb as a C: and 60gb as a D: and had no problems....
However recently I've switched again and now have 3 hard drives in the
system, a 200gb (formatted as 20gb for c: and 180gb for G, for Video Files,
a 80gb as the D: drive and a 120gb as the F drive, the DVD burner being E.
They are all Maxtor 8mb cache ATA133 drives and I do remember reading at the
Maxtor website that older drives do not work well with these newer ones.
