Two "default program" problems

Running WinXP Pro SP1, and having a couple of problems:

1) Windows will not let me use ACDSee 2.43 as my default image viewer
for image filetypes... instead it uses its own viewer when I launch an
image, even though it has the ACDSee file-type icon.

2) Internet Explorer 6 keeps stealing back "default browser" status
from Mozilla 1.4, even though I have the option of "Internet Explorer
should check to see if it's the default browser" turned off. I have
no idea if it is actually stealing it away, but any time I run Mozilla
after running IE, Mozilla asks if it wants to be set back to the
default browser.

Thanks

This is because the default action for image files is to preview the
image, not open. If you right click on the image file you will notice
that the default (bold) item is preview. If you select open instead of
preview on that menu the image file should open in your default image
editor. Also, within the MS image preview application you can press CTRL
E to close the preview and open the image for editing in your default
application.
2) Internet Explorer 6 keeps stealing back "default browser" status
from Mozilla 1.4, even though I have the option of "Internet Explorer

This may also be a bug in Mozilla where it improperly detects if another
application has set itself as the default browser. What happens if you
click a link to a web page in an e-mail message? Or double click a
shortcut to a web page on your desktop? If these continue to open in
Mozilla then that is your default browser.
