Two CPU Limit ?

I want to upgrade from win98 to 2K on my home, office and
mobil PCs. Will I have to buy 2 licenses because the CD
will only work in 1-2 PCs and refuse to install in my 3rd
one? I'm the only user and don't want the extra expense.

it;s possible to install win2k on many different machines ...however...
legally you may only install one copy of win2k per machine
(win2k does not have product activation as does XP)

Each install of Windows 2000 requires a license. Each install will work
with a single or dual CPU computer - that does not mean you can install
it twice. Some high-end computer have more than one CPU, that's what the
1~2 CPU means.

If you want to do Home, Office, and Laptop, you will require 3 copies of
Windows 2000 Professional.

If you are going to install MS Office 2000, you can install one copy on
a "Work" PC and one copy on a "Home" PC, but you are required to ensure
that both computer are not used at the same time.

Keep in mind, "each" license violation cost about $10,000 if you get
caught.
 
Thanks everyone. You provided perfect answers. I wasn't
sure about 1-2 PCs vs. 1-2 processors. Now it's clear.
It interesting that you can install MS applications on two
PCs but not the operating system, even if you're only
using one machine at a time. This feels like a rip-off.

It's been that was since the start. In most cases, with most vendors,
you are lucky if they let two users use the same application without
additional licensing.

I know a bunch of apps that require per-user licenses.
