Two-column report; trouble with totals

I have a two-column report that ends in the middle of the
second (right-hand) column, but the totals for the report
are not displayed until the first column of the next
page. What can I do to fix this?

Create a top level group (View - Sorting and Grouping) on a
constant expression such as =1. Then move the total
controls to the group footer section.
