four new scanners can't work with Windows XP. Twain error
messages all the time. Microsoft can;t help. Epson can't
help. PC World can't help.

What scanner? I found a TWAIN for WinXP at Epson's website for my Epson
Perfection 1200U Photo scanner.

And, of course, there's always Vuescan if your scanner is compatible:
