Tom

Just installed a Visioneer 7100 and updated the software from the web
site. All works fine as long as I work with the One Touch menus.

However, when I try to scan directly from another application(except
for Word) such as my graphics program or even from Notepad I get an
error indicating that "no Twain Compatible equipment can be found".
Also, I noted that in Notepad under File there is no listing for
Textbridge. I checked my old computer with another scanner installed
and Textbridge appears there and can be used to scan images directly
in from the scanner using Textbridge.

Is the problem that the software was not fully installed?

Or does this model only install to the Paperport software? and Word?

Is there a fix?

Thanks. Tom.

Are all the TWAIN parts on your computer?

Look in C:\WINDOWS\Twain_32. There must be a folder with the Visioneer data
source, a .DS file. There may be more than one file. But only one .ds.

C:\WINDOWS must have the Twain and Twunk files, there are at least two that
have Twain in the filename and at least two that have Twunk in the filename.

You make sure that you have installed the TWAIN interface for the scanner.
Also be sure the the graphics program supports TWAIN.

Here is a Graphics program that is very versatile and has a TWAIN interface.
Plus it is free. Also get the plug-ins. The plug-ins are what make this
program great.

Select Source in the file menu. If the Scanner TWAIN is not shown in this
program, there is not a TWAIN source on the computer.

Notepad will never have an item for the scanner (textbridge), Notepad is
just a Text only editor, and 64 KB max file size at that.
Are you sure the it was Notepad and not Wordpad. Wordpad is a Rich Text
Editor and may be compatible with Textbridge.

You would need something like Microsoft Word for TextBridge to appear in the
file menu.

Try re-installing the scanner software.

Thanks for the suggestions for solving the problem. While I was
waiting for a response, I went to the Knowledge Base of Visioneer and
got another suggestion for solving the problem. I include it here for
the record. (Sounds good, but in WinXPSP2 hidden files are not found
by Start/Search even when made visible through View.)

From Bleepingcomputer.com

"Windows XP

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
Double-click on the My Computer icon.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
After the new window appears select the View tab.
Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system
folders.
Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button
labeled Show hidden files and folders.
Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for
known file types.
Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating
system files.
Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files"
