scanner. The problem is when i try to scan a photo i get
the message:

"the parallel port may be in use by another application"
"error code: 0x00060800"

I get this message but i cannot scan anything in any
program.

If I understand you correctly, you are chaining your parallel connections to
your computer like so: computer (parallel port) -> scanner (parallel) ->
printer (parallel).

I think its time to update your connections or devices. :-)

But if you disconnect your printer form the scanner - does the scanner work
now? (things get unstable, esp. on XP with these older connection types like
parallel, SCSI and serial connections with today's much faster computers.)
Also, once you use the printer or are in an application that can print - the
application (like Microsoft WORD) has open's your printer driver when the
application begins. Why? Applications like MS Word want to offer the user
fonts that the printer is capable of printing. I recommend either updating
your devices to USB or 1394, or put the other parallel device on the second
parallel port on the computer (if it has one) - you can purchase an extra
parallel port card for your computer.

good luck!
