Hi!

I read somewhere that this card only supported the ATI VCR format when
recoding when the card was released. However, I also read that it can now
record in different formats including MPEG1 and MPEG2 when using the latest
ATI softwares and drivers.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

You can do that with the ATI programs that come with it. Be aware that it
is limited in resolution and will only record in mono.

Thanks, I just wanted to know if it was possible to use other formats than
proprietary VCR format. I'll be using instead of my "cheap" crap VHS Vcr...
As long as it's close to crappy VHS quality, I'm fine.

The resolution is only limited by the ATI software, not the hardware, so if
he wanted to use a third party program like PowerVCR to record his programs
in MPEG1 or 2, he could achieve up to 720x480 rather than the XXXx240
resolution he would be limited to with the MMC software.

I would also suggest using the line input of his sound card to record audio
instead of the mono audio input of the TV wonder VE.

Set up correctly, the TV Wonder VE cards can truly capture amazing quality
video, but you have to be willing to ditch the MMC software to do it.

I had a lot of trouble using my ATI TVWonder with third party software,
couldnt get sound to work. I'm now considering a 9600aiw because I have a
lot of analog camcorder I want to capture and it would save mucho time going
to mpeg2 first thing, but I'm wondering about the quality taking that
route...
