Any opinions on the TV Wonder Pro?

Recently installed the 9600XT and all working great!

Had an 7500 All in Wonder years ago and was looking for opinions on the TV
Wonder Pro as an addon.

jb..

I had a "Radeon all in Wonder" first generation, an "ATI TV wonder pro"
and recently a "MSI tv@anywhere" tuner. I can say that the quality of
the picture of the Tv Wonder Pro is by far the worst.
I bought mine in 2002, unless they improve recently, I think they are
lots of tv tuners that have a better quality (Leadtek are also suppose
to be good).

My ATI All in Wonder 9000 Pro has an excellent picture. Made sure to put an
amplifier on the cable vision though. I believe the tuner technologies in
the AIWP should be similar to the TVWP. Just takes up an additional PCI slot
though.... :)

I thought the TV Wonder Pro wasn't available until mid 2003.

Anyhow, the problem isn't the card itself, rather it's the MMC software.
Currently the new 8.8
version has serious problems with audigy cards. Version 8.2 ships with the
carf and seems to
work reasonably well.

I originally bought an ATI All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro so that I could use
one less card in my system (my Leadtek TV2000XP Deluxe). A few days
later, however, I exchanged it, bought an ATI 9800XT, and popped my
Leadtek TV card back in. I like the Leadtek a lot.

Personaly I just bought the VE version with remote ...
absolutely worthless. Nothing but crashes and the
remote "switches on and off" ... it decides not to work
and then it will decide to work ... a very frustrating
experience, the latest MMC works far worse than
the shipped version ... crashes even if it was all set-up
perfectly.

There is a known issue with the TV Wonder running on any of the new Hyper
Threaded Pentiums. Microsoft has a known fix for this. I experienced tons of
crashes etc with my TV Wonder until i installed the Hot Fix. Since then it
has never locked up or crashed. Actually i need to qualify that. That is
true for version 8.2 of MMC on my computer. I tried to upgrade to the new
version 8.8 and since i also have a (insert sarcasm) relatively unknown
soundcard, yes a soundblaster Audigy, i cant get 8.8 to work and had to
revert to 8.2. Anyway, until i got the Hot Fix from Microsoft i would have
had to concur with your post but since the fix the card has worked like a
champ and IMO is a good value for the money spent.

Yes thank you, I found the download and work great
as the TV only part ... awesome ... but it's also the
remote wonder that is hardly functional.

Did you try the Version 1.4 remote control driver from the ATI site? I am
using 8.2 MMC, 1.4 Remote Control software and the Hotfix and all works as
advertised. If you didnt try the 1.4 version of remote control give that a
shot.

Ed

No I didn't, I am using the 2.2 remote download with
the 8.8 TV download ...
Thanks,
Alex
