I received the ATI TV Wonder Pro Remote Edition for Christmas.
"Weeee," I thought. Now after two days of confusion, I'm here begging
for someone to help me get this thing installed correctly.

I have a Dell 8300 with a 128MB ATI Radeon 9800. I followed the
instructions, inserted the card into an open PCI slot. It's been so
long since I started trying to get this thing to work that the initial
few minutes are a bit hazy, but I think there might have been some
problem with the initial, automatic new hardware installation...
although I can't say for sure.

So then I tried installing the MMC 8.2 from the CD, but it wouldn't
work (I couldn't use the TV function). So I uninstalled it and then I
uninstalled my ATI display driver and ATI control panel and installed
the latest versions of each prior to attempting to install the current
8.8 version of MMC and Remote Wonder 2.2.

That didn't help.

So I uninstalled those and then moved the TV card to another slot and
reinstalled the CD, with the same problems/results, only now it
appears that the computer doesn't even recognize the TV card as being
there.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? The more detail the better,
as this is actually the first card I've ever installed (not too good
for the confidence). I'm guessing I'll need to reinstall the card, but
I don't know how to uninstall whatever hardware installed when I
initially put the card in. I'd like to start over from scratch.

Thanks.

Where to begin.....This card was a huge pain for me to get installed but at
the end of the day i have it working and it works great. My advice would be
as follows.

1) Go to the ATI site and do some downloading. Get the 3.10 catalyst drivers
for the 9800 link here
http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/...c&prod=productsXPdriver&submit.x=8&submit.y=7

Get the removal utilty to remove all ATI related files from your system link
here http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/misc/catalystutils.html

Get Version 1.4 of the remote control software here
http://www.ati.com/support/products...ote&prod=remotedriver&submit.x=14&submit.y=11

Download all three of these.

2) At this point switch to a standard vga, xvga or whatever microsoft
driver doesnt matter which one, and reboot the computer. To be safe, while
the computer is off, i would remove the TV Tuner Card and unplug the USB
remote.

3) Restart the PC, go to start>control panel>add remove software> remove ATI
remote control, multimedia center then display drivers (and anything else
labled ATI) in that order. Now personally i have never used the ATI removal
utility so i dont know if you need to run it with all the stuff installed or
after you uninstall and cleans up the scraps (maybe somebody else can add
their two cents) I would then run the ATI utility to see if it scans for
scraps and registry keys etc. Once all this junk is uninstalled i would
reboot.

4) After reboot install the catalyst 3.10 display drivers and get your video
up and running correctly.

5) Turn off the the computer and install the TV card (leave the remote
unplugged for now).Install the TV tuner card drivers from the CD (there are
no newer version on the ATI site). Install MMC 8.2 from the CD. If you are
brave you can try the 8.8 version but people have had a ton of issues with
that version. I cant get it to work right with my soundblaster Audigy. From
the link i found for your PC
http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&id=dimen_8300
it lists Audigy as an option. For me i found i had to stay with 8.2 (which
has all the features etc i need anyway) but depending on your sound
configurastion you may want to download 8.8 MMC from ATI. Your call but i
wouldnt. Also after you get this installed go to the install directory on
the ATI CD and find the Gemstar folder. run setup from that folder. You
should now have the TV card installed, MMC 8.2 installed and the Gemstar
programming software installed.

6) Read your install instructions. I think it says to install the remote
software before plugging in the card but i forget. Figure out which to do
first. Either way install the Version 1.4 remote software you downloaded.
You may or may not have to reboot.

so now you should have everything installed and kind of working ......my
guess is it will start and run TV etc and the remote will work but based on
the Dell link above you have a new P4 with Hyper Threading processor . That
presents a problem. Read here to find out why
http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4261.html There is a known issue that
Microsoft has a fix for. However you will have to ransom your first child
before they will send it to you. It took me three days 5 phone calls, 3
emails and 2 chat sessions with Microsoft support. You cant just download it
from their site. i will send the file to the email address you used for this
newsgroup. If that doesnt work send me an email (remove the no spam) and i
will send it over to you....Or you can try your luck with microsoft...

After you install the microsoft Hotfix you should be good to go.... Easy
huh? Anyhow i hope this helps you as this install pissed me off like no
other in years. That being said now that it is working i am wondering how i
ever lived without one of these things.

Good Luck

Ed

PS, in regards to item 5 of my previous post if you use the 8.8 version of
MMC you need the 2.2 version of the remote software. If you use the 8.2
version of MMC then you use the 1.4 version of the remote software. Just
wanted to clarify.
