TV Wonder Pro - Can't install MMC 89

Hi folks,

I bought an ATI TV Wonder Pro, installed it, and then my normally-wonderful
girlfriend threw the box away almost immediately. In other words, I can't
take it back.

Problem: The thing crashes virtually every time I use it. It will usually
work for a while, then freeze up, leaving the last image frozen on my
desktop. I can still use my computer, but have to restart to get the TV
working again.

It came with the MMC 82 package on the CD, and I see on the ATI website that
MMC 89 is out. But when I try to install it over MMC 82 (following all the
steps in the 89 docs), it looks like it's going to install, then it runs the
MMC 82 installer AGAIN to re-install that. When I start the program, yep,
it's 82.

If I uninstall the TV Wonder Pro drivers and software, then then install the
89 package, the installer will just silently quit partway through.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why I can't install this? Please help. I'm
stuck, and I spent far more money on this than I should have.

I beleive the problem relates to hyperthreading. It is a known bug and
Microsoft has a patch to fix it. It was posted here a few weeks back.
This should take care of the problem. Someone else posted it
originally, I *think* I posted it for someone else. Do a search for my
name and see if you can find where I posted it.

Avatar,

That's great news, but I've searched both Google and Yahoo, and can't find
the patch. I also searched back on this forum, but I've only got messages
from the last few days.

Do you have any more information on that patch?

Greg

That's perfect, working great so far. Thanks Avatar!

Glad to hear that. Always a plus when you hear that things are working
rather than "You screwed up my system." :)
