Hi all, Brand new to all this, I have TV tuner and regularly record study
programs from tv to my hard disc via the built in TV tuner. For storage
purposes I intend to copy these to DVD. I would appreciate advice on 1) Is
it possible to do this. 2) Can I use WMM. to edit out sections of the
recording before copying to DVD. 3) Is it possible for me to add in my
comments and notes for revision purposes. If the above is possible then I
will start to teach myself how to use WMM. If not then the search begins for
a suitable editor. Many thanks in advance

TV is typically recorded in MPEG-2 files and Movie Maker usually doesn't
handle them... so you need to do conversion before importing them into Movie
Maker.

See the Import Movie Source Files > Video section of my site... the MPEG-2
and Recorded TV pages...

Use WMM to capture from the TV capture card - if you compress to a suitable
level you shouldn't need to store on DVD just use the HDD - but if you
really want to burn to DVD to watch later in a DVD player via TV then Yes
you can edit, narrate (with mic), add text titles as notes etc

If you just want to store the programs on a DVD to view later on your PC, but
not play them in a converntional DVD player hooked up to your TV, you will in
fact be making a "data" DVD. So;

1) if you want to edit using WMM, then use WMM to record the programs.
Choosing the highest quality setting will give you a suitable .wmv file that
WMM will handle without a hitch.

2) if you use your tuner to record and you record in MPEG, then you'll have
to do a conversion as noted by PapaJohn.

3) you will need burn your finished product to DVD using software that will
create "data" DVD's.

If you want to edit these programs and burn them to a DVD that will play in
a conventional player hooked up to your TV then;

1) You will need video editing software that will create more than just
"data" DVD's and you will want to record your programs with DVD "specs" ie:
MPEG2, variable bit rate (VBR) 8,000kbps 48,000khz audio etc. etc. Record
using your tuner, edit and burn using DVD video authoring/editing software.

2) Don't waste your time with WMM since it doesn't handle MPEG2 well and it
won't make DVD's (data or otherwise).

NOTEKY
