TV black and silent after wake from standby

When my PC has been asleep (S3, suspend-to-RAM) for several hours, the ATI
TV no longer works after the PC resumes. The TV image is black and there is
no sound. The Device Manager does not indicate any problem with the TV
device. (Shorter suspend periods do not produce this problem.) After I
reboot, the TV works properly again.

ATI 9800 AIW Pro (Cat 3.9, MMC 8.7), XP Pro (all updates installed).

Is there any fix for this problem, or any workaround other than to reboot?

S3, suspend-to-RAM

S3? not sure what that means, S3 as in the old vid chips?

This is a common problem and can be related to any piece of hardware. Were you/have you been successful prior to the 9800 install,
to get a working PC after standby?

No, S3 is the standby mode where the PC cuts power to just about everything
except the RAM (hence the name suspend-to-RAM). Even the fans turn off, so
the PC appears to be shut down. But the power supplied to the RAM preserves
its state, so the PC can wake up rapidly (just a few seconds) with all open
apps still open. (Suspend-to-RAM is different from hibernation, where the
memory state is saved to the disk, and then restored from the disk when the
computer resumes.)

This is a recently assembled PC that has had the 9800 from the beginning.
The PC always works fine after resuming from standby, except that the ATI TV
often does not work, as described below.

reboot?

hmmm I never saw the 'S3' name attached to 'suspend to ram' before....that's why I asked. I found out on my 7500 awhile back that,
if I changed to OB sound, wake up worked and the TV would start No problem. But if I used a SB card instead, the system would
struggled to wake up and the TV would not initiate. In your case you had a system that worked and then stopped, I would say its a
driver problem or maybe a setting in the windows PM that maybe conflicting..try turning off other Power management in windows.
