Turning on

Despite having set the options, windows defender is always turned off until I
manually turn it on. This is the case on two pc's that I use. Can anyone help
please?
 
Windows defender runs as a service. By default, there is no icon showing
that it is running unless user interaction is needed.

You can change this in tools, options: Scroll down using the scroll bar on
the right to the bottom of real-time protection options.

If you have this option set to "always" and still don't see the icon, check
your notifcation area settings--right-click an empty space in the
notification area and choose "customize notifications" and set Windows
Defender to "always show."
