How do I turn on the num lock key when the computer
starts, so I do not have to do it?

Hi, Bretsharon.

Usually there are two ways - and they might "step on" each other.

Easiest way is to set it On or Off as you prefer before you shut down WinXP;
it should boot up the same way next time. I think this is user-specific, so
if you are not the only user with an Account on this computer, each user may
have separate settings.

Many computers have a NumLock setting for the BIOS in the CMOS settings
before Windows ever loads. If the other method doesn't work and you can't
find this CMOS setting yourself, post back with the make and model of your
computer and somebody here will probably know the trick for that computer.

THere is a bug in XP for the numlock. If the BIOS is set to on, when
you boot to XP it turns the numlock off. If you look at the post I
put below, it has to great sites that have small programs that
overcomes this problem.

I have NumLock set to off because I use the keypad keys PgUp and PgDn
quite often. These do not work if the NumLock is On! It is oh so easy to
place your lazy finger on the NumLock key to set it to the On position.
Use your common sense! If you use these newsroups a lot then you will
use those keys a lot. That is if you know what they are for. :-)
