I seem to be having a problem turning off windows mail. I use outlook 2003 as
my mail and news reader. I am running windows Vista Home Premium. When I open
up the "windows feature" box by way of the control panel- programs -windows
features. Windows mail does not appear on the list to be turned off. thanks
Mike

0Thanks Michael outlook is set as my default for e-mail. All I want to do is
disable windows mail as it still appears as a program on the system> Maybe I
am missing something?
mike

Go to Start | Email (Windows Mail) and right click on it and choose Remove
from list.

Thanks Steve. As I understand it know the program is not deleted from the
system as with prior versions of windows correct?

The shortcut is gone. Since Windows 2000, OE has been part of the system
and you couldn't remove it. WinMail is also your newsreader and is required
for that, so you can't get rid of it.

Does this mean that if I turn off Windows Mail, the program I really WANT to
handle my Mail will take over? I ask because I've even gone into the
registry to get Windows Mail to give up its "maito" duties but it hasn't.
I've gotten everything else associated with Incredimail but that.

Also...I NEED Windows Mail for newsgroups--you're saying it won't go away,
right? (Just double-checking!)

You need to ask the Incredimail people about Incredimail. Why do you keep
asking questions about Incredimail here? Microsoft didn't write
Incredimail.

It's quite simple. As with those who've asked how to get Vista to
"recognize" GMail and Hotmail, I want to change my default email client,
I've already done what the Incredimail people asked, and their software is
working fine. But previously I was able to find out how to use the Windows
XP registry to allow Incredimail and Firebox both to open when I click on
links. I can't use the same fixes with Vista, but someone may have an
answer for Vista, too, by now.

And...if this isn't the forum for that...mea culpa. But given the title of
this one...I think this is the place.

It would be best if you looked for some of the online forums that cover
Incredimail. You will find a lot more information in those than here. Most
people usually posting here about it are wanting to get rid of it.

This newsgroup is about Windows Mail. Not any email client that will work
with Vista.

Getting GMail to work is not like Incredimail. You're not just dealing with
server names and ports.

The only suggestion I have is to keep reading responses here
about setting an email program other than Windows Mail as
the default. The problem is that Incredimail is deprecated by
technical folks (including myself), so we're not familiar with
its idiocincracies.
