Probably a dumb question, but I can't find a solution in either XP's Help section, or in documentation

How do you turn off certain sounds? Like exclamations, and other sounds I find distracting. I looked in Audio and Sounds in he Control Panel, but there is no option available for disabling sounds. Even the Help does not address this issue

Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

Start/Control Panel/Sounds..../Sounds/Program Events/Sounds Drop box.
Scroll all the way up, and choose None.

Thanks for answering! Do you mean to say, the sounds
option is either all or nothing? I just want to turn off
a few annoying sounds.

You can pick and choose from the sounds you want and what they are applied
to in the lower half of that same window.
