Turning off NUM Lock in 2000

I just had my WINBOOK Si returned after a hard drive
replacement and reformat. Prior to this the NUM LOCK did
not come on when the system booted.

I have asked WINBOOK Tech Support for solutions and they
are baffled.

The BIOS do not have an option for start-up or setup for
what keys are switched to what.

All other keys, i.e., "CAPS LOCK", are not a problem.

Is this a registry issue. I have tried the suggested MS
solution for turning on the NUM LOCK, attempted to use the
opposite default and it did not work.

While not an earth ending problem, it is a nuisance.

Thanks for any help.

Windows NT/ 2000 ignores the bios on this issue. Set the Reg_Sz string value
of
"InitialKeyboardIndicators"="0"
zero
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard
will set the numlock to "Off" when no one is logged on. May need to restart
for effect.

I followed the reply and it is essentially the comment
made in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 154529. I tried
it again and it had no effect on the NUM LOCK.

I believe there must be another Registry line that has
some control over this function. I have noticed it has to
be in WIN 2000 as NUM LOCK is not on during system boot.

It comes on as soon as the password is entered in the USER
Window after ctrl-alt-del.

I have tried reboots, sought out some part of the control
panel that could affect this and am still starting out
with NUM LOCK on.

Gee Maybe if I never turn off the computer, the problem
will go away. Any body know of a lifetime battery without
a cord?

Thanks for any help.

.

*After logon* Numlock on, then log off will set
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard
"InitialKeyboardIndicators" = 2
for the current user.
