At work, I am using a LAN to access the Internet. Is
there a way to turn off access to the internet for an
XP 'Guest' account, while still allowing the 'Guest'
account to access other computers on the LAN that are
already mapped?

Not with anything built into XP.
It's hard for the OS to know where the "local" network
ends and where the "Internet" begins in most situations.

You may want to look into some sort of firewall/proxy
system that requires authentication (Microsoft ISA server
comes to mind, but may be overkill for your situation).

Hi,

there are more then one way to do this. Best way would be by e.g. installing
a proxy and only allowing browsing to the internet over proxy. You could
then configure proxy to require an user authentication (or it could just use
user's domain credentials). Since user Guest doesn't have credentials any
user signing on as Guest won't be able to surf the net.

Second way to do it, is I guess more or less "workaround". I am not sure if
you have domain environment so I will consider it that you don't have it.

Logon as a user you would like to restrict (in this case Guest). Open
gpedit.msc (Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc...). Go to User Settings and expand
Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer. Here
you have quite a lot of settings.

What you could do is e.g. set the IE (Internet Explorer) to point to blank
page and remove URL box and prohibit user to edit any settings on IE...

Hope this helps...
