Hi,

I asked my host to turn off directory browsing for my site so that
browsers can't see lists of all my files. The response was that
turning off directory browsing att he server end would break FP
Extensions.

Should I just go ahead and put fake default.htm files in all my
folders? Or should I get a new hosting company?

TIA
Duncan

Hi Duncan,

You might want to think about a new host. Directory browsing will have no
bearing on FP extensions. In the meantime get default pages in each
directory.

Ask them how specifically it would impact the FP extensions.

All they need to do is set the permission to not allow a folder's content to be displayed when no
default document is available when a folder is accessed directly from a browser, the browser should
display a message similar to the following:

Directory Listing Denied
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.

Their Expert was out of town. But I've forwarded this to them. I've
had some long downtimes in the past while they struggled with FP
Extensions, and I'll probably end up taking Jon's advice to move to a
new host soon, too.

Thank you both very much!
