Thanks, Jezebel. I protected the form and saved but this creates another problem: when I open the form, the check boxes can't be clicked nor can words be typed into the table.

"Jezebel"
Protect for forms, then save.

automatically opening in design mode?

Are you sure the check boxes and the text fields came from the forms toolbar? If not, protecting the form is going to shut off this functionality

ActiveX controls (from the Control Toolbox) and Form fields (from the Forms
toolbar) are not compatible. You have to use one or the other. When using
the former, you have to reduce Word's Security level from High to at least
Medium so that you get a chance to enable macros.

Thanks, Sharon! I'm not sure - I believe I took them from the forms toolbar BUT I need to double check.

Thanks, Suzanne! I'm impressed with everyone's help here! This is certainly more complex than I imagined! I'll give this a try.

OK - I see the error of my ways! I've also lowered the security. However, I still have the problem of not being able to type characters in the form. How can I enable the ActiveX without disabling typing?

I have no experience with ActiveX controls and little with protected forms,
but perhaps someone else will be able to help.
