Is there a way of turning internet service off and on via software? I am on
cable and using a LinkSys wired router. Even though I am using a firewall,
I'd like to be able to remove the internet connection when the computer is
unused for long periods.Yes, I know I can remove the plug, but I'm looking
for a software solution.

Thanks for any help.

Some cable modems have a small on/off button or you can simply remove power
from the modem or router.

JS

Create a shortcut on the Desktop or Startmenu to your LAN Connection
(found in Control Panel->Network Connections).

Right click the shortcut and select Disable. To Eneble again just right
click the shortcut and select enable.

right click the 'connected' icon in the systray. It should then have a
'disable' button. Click that and the connection should disconnect
