This may be a simple one, but I can't get it. When I
turn on my system (Windows XP Home) it goes to the screen
where I must click on "User". I want to turn on my
system and have it go directly to my desktop screen.
Thanks for your input.

Hi Bob,

Click start/run, type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and
click ok. Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click apply/ok
and follow the prompts to set up a default logon.

Rick -

I too wanted to go straight to the desktop at logon so was interested to
read your response.

I did the run control..., unchecked "users must enter.." and it took me to a
dialogue...in which I erased "adminstrator" in the user field, put in my user
name so I would be the default user logged on, and put in a password. Now
when I start up, I get a notice "System could not log you on. Make sure your
user name and domain are correct then type password again."

I click okay and it takes me straight to the user list to click (which is
what I wanted to avoid in the first place). Did I mess up by not leaving the
default user as "administrator"?

I tried going through this again but it didn't help. Fortunately I can
still get to my desktop. Unfortunately it now takes two taps instead of one
to get to my desktop, and I really wanted none.

Thanks for your help!
Laura

Hi Laura,

Either the username or password are incorrect, or the profile it is trying
to load is corrupt. You might want to undo it, then reboot and retry it.
