Turn off Windows Firewall (AND Security Center!)

It really seems much more like a beta than something that was ready for
release! Here's the scenario: I tell it to NOT notify me for firewall
problems (for some reason it doesn't think I have a firewall even though one
is built-in to my Linksys router). That's fine until I reboot - then it goes
back to popping up every few minutes to warn me about the firewall. Half the
time it doesn't recognize that my Norton anti-virus is running, either. I
want to shut this thing off entirely - I'm a big boy and willing to take the
risk myself without this stupid thing popping up to annoy me constantly.
What are my options short of uninstalling SP2?

Ron;
Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services
Double click Security Center and select Disabled.

XP checks for the existence of a software firewall for your benefit.. it
does not check for the existence of a hardware firewall in any peripheral
device that may be connected to your system.. why do you think that it
should?

Third party security software should be adapted to work with the operating
system of the day.. reverse that situation and we would still have Windows
3.1 installed.. re. NAV not being recognised, go to the Symantec support
site for answers..
