Hello,
I am looking at testing a bunch of the same type of USB devices, each
with a different serial number. Each time I plug one in the new
hardware wizard launches. Is there a registry switch that can be used
to tell the wizard or the PnP manager to use the existing driver in
the INF folder so the wizard never pops up?

If you want to respond trash the +... from the address above.

TIA

Even though the hardware wizard pops up, it does not mean that is loading a
different driver each time. All it's doing is letting you know that it's
installing the hardware and when the hardware is ready to use. In most
cases, it's installing with the exact same driver. USB device drivers are
there for use at all times (once installed), but XP does not keep the driver
resident after the device is unplugged. But, once it's plugged back in, it
uses this 'wizard' business to let you know when the driver has been
reinitialized and ready to use. Beats the crap out of rebooting. :)
Remember how we waited on Win98 to "built a driver database" and then still
demand we insert a disk. :)
