Hello,

does anyone know how to turn off this annoying indexservice
(searchindexer.exe)?

Thanks a lot!

Andi

Hello,

- Click Start
- Click Control Panel
- Click System and Maintenance
- Click Administrative Tools
- Double-click Services
- If asked for permission, click Continue
- Scroll through the list and find "Windows Search"
- Right-click it, and click Properties
- Click Stop
- Click the dropdown box next to Startup Type
- Click Disabled
- Click OK

Hmmm

My Vista says nothing about System and Maintenance in the control panel.

Steve

Then you probably have your control panel setup like mine, you likely have
an administrative tools icon right in the control panel.

searchindexer by default indexes only a small amount of folders, such as the
start menu, the windows mail and the documents and so it's not heavy. I don't
see any valid reasons to disable it.

Because, Bill.

There seem to be many people who simply want Vista to run like XP. Still
using the Run applet when the Search window of the Start menu works just
fine, turning off indexing, turning off UAC... When you do all these
things, what part of Vista are you actually testing?

The search indexer is buggy in beta 2 and some people need to turn it off in
order to use their system.

That's not true. I used the beta2 with search indexer active without problems.

I bought a computer brand new 2 months ago . . . so I don't think I'm using a
beta version. . .and searchindexer turns on about every 20 minutes and my
hard drive just keeps making that geiger counter noise . . .sure, it's not
that loud, but when it turns on every 20 minutes and goes for about 15
minutes straight it starts to get annoying. Sooooo, i'm turning indexer off.
