I am trying to test some Flash animations and XP Pro won't let me get around
the pop-up blocker. I tried what was suggested in the Help files but that
doesn't seem to work. How can I turn it off, or better, remove it? Thanks.

You should be able to turn it on and off.
Under Tools >Pop up Blocker >

Thanks. I tried that but IE continues to block pop-ups (on local files) that
I am testing when I click Preview in Browser.

Here is an example of a path it just blocked: "C:\Documents and
Settings\BillM\Local Settings\Temp\~preview0.swf" (You can see this is a
Flash file).

I am no expert but I would venture that your problem probably does not have
anything to do with the pop-up-blocker.

Try this:
In Internet Explorer click on Tools and select Internet Options.
Then click on the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Security section.
Place a check in the first two rows dealing with active content on CDs and
local files.
Click Apply then OK.
Exit Internet Explorer.
Log-off-log-on or restart computer.

This might solve your issue. Please recognize that the overall security of
your computer would be lessened by this action - but as long as you are
opening only known content it should be okay.

Amazing! How in the world did you know? (I wouldn't have figured that out
for a week)!!!

Pretty simple actually - I had a somewhat similar issue myself with Flash
and other active content saved locally from web sites, some time ago!

I applied the solution and also installed a stand-alone Flash Player (SWIFF
Player - free, available with a Google Search) which does away with the IE
issue altogether.

Glad it worked for you. :-)
