Turn off new email notification

On THe welcome screen where all the users are listed on the system, where you click to logon to the computer, I have 2 users and it is displaying a message saying "2 unread emails waiting" next to my user name. Is there anyway to turn off this notification? I don't want the other user to know I have email waiting. I am running xp pro.
