Hi guys/gals,

Is there a way to turn off auto-update? I have a
Workbook (Book2) with one sheet that was generated from
another Workbook (Book1). Book2 contains some formulas
that originated in Book1. Book2 is saved as a unique
file. What I'm looking for is a way to turn off the auto-
update function when Book2 is opened, thus eliminating
the window that currently pops up offering you the choice
to update or not. End result hopefully would be that
Book2 would never change upon opening that file.

I'd like to do this within the macro that generates Book2
from Book1, if that's possible.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Don

Hi Vasant,

I'm using Windows XP and Excel 2000. I found the link
function you refer to but there is no option |Break
Link....or anything close to that. There is a tick by
Automatic, I tried to remove it with no luck. It seems
as though it's there to stay as the other tick box
option, labeled "Manual" is greyed out.

Any other suggestions??

Hi Vasant,

I think I may have a solution, if there are no bugs in
this method. I'm going to re-record the macro and before
the single page is saved, copy the parts of the sheet
(Book2) that have the formula's, then paste
special/values back into the same cells. This seemed to
work manually.

Thanks for the help, I'll post back if it works,

Don

Just me again Vasant,

Well, it seems to work right, however when opening the
saved file (Book2), it still gives the option to update
but there are no formulas to update. I resorted Book1 so
the file should have different data in it, opened Book2,
clicked on update and nothing happened. All the correct
data stayed in place. I'll try it a few more times
tomorrow but it does seem to do the job. If there is an
easier way to accomplish this, please let me know.

Thanks again,

Don
