Is there any way to turn off the auto install when new
hardware is detected when the computer is booted?
I have some networking hardware installed that I have
uninstalled but not physically removed from the computer.
Every time I boot it reinstalls the hardware. Thanks

Actually it's a firewire LAN connection that is built
into the motherboard. I could disconnect the port, but it
will still be on the motherboard and will reinstall. I
suppose i could look in the BIOS to see about disableing
it so that XP won't see it. I was hoping there might be
an easy way to disable the auto install feature in XP...

Disable the hardware in XP. You can do that in the properies sheets for the
device in Network Connections or in Device Manager.
